Momentum building ahead of Waikato season

A host of player signings has coincided with the 2000th season member joining the Waikato family
ahead of the 2016 Mitre 10 Cup season.

The Waikato season is already underway with the first Ranfurly Shield defence successfully negotiated
– an 83-13 win over Thames Valley in Paeroa – and preparations will now begin to ramp up with the
Mitre 10 Cup now less than two months away.

And with the season opener fast approaching, Waikato can confirm a few key members of their 2016
squad including Isaac Boss, Stephen Donald, Sam Christie and Willis Halaholo.

Isaac Boss made his return to Waikato colours in the Thames Valley match and is signed for 2016,
while Stephen Donald is back again after an injury plagued comeback in 2015.

First five Sam Christie is another familiar face returning to the province. He played the last of his 42
matches for Waikato in 2013 and has signed on for this season after finishing up a stint in Italy.

Hurricanes midfield back Willis Halaholo has signed from Southland for 2016 before heading off to the
Cardiff Blues at the end of the year.

Waikato head coach Sean Botherway said, “The experience of these four will compliment the young
players in our squad nicely and their leadership will be a huge boost to our 2016 campaign.”

“Isaac, Stephen and Sam are all passionate Waikato men who have given a lot for the red, yellow and
black jersey and we are looking forward to them contributing once again this season. Willis has been a standout at Mitre 10 Cup level in recent years and has plenty of Super Rugby experience so he will provide us with a very solid option in midfield.”

WRU Commercial and Marketing Manager David Fox said, “This is a hugely exciting time for the
Waikato Rugby Union. We are gaining momentum with some key player signings and with now well
over 2000 season members there is a buzz around the stadium and we can’t wait for the Mitre 10 Cup
to get underway.”

With five possible Ranfurly Shield clashes on the schedule, FMG Stadium Waikato is set for one of it’s
biggest Waikato seasons in several years. To become a season member for 2016 call the WRU now on
